BG Caller ID is a program that actually informs you about who is calling before you pick up the phone. You must subscribe to the caller id service from your local phone company and have a caller id capable modem. See the caller id capable modem list here.
The program communicates directly with the modem avoiding any TAPI requirements or misconfigured modem drivers.
There is not need for any database or ODBC drivers installed. The program is designed to use a minimal amount of third party software layers so it is possible to be run under Linux with WINE. However this is not tested so far. It has a built in write pad which stores callers info and can be edited online and offline. Also there is a detailed call log which can be consulted at later time for old call information. A separate log file is created for every day and a group of files are organized in a directory for the month.
