Simple PDF Editor
Simple PDF Editor (also called EzeePDF) is a simple and convenient text editor for TXT and RTF documents with capability to save text files as PDF documents. PDF is very likely the most popular file format for exchanging documents in Internet, publishing reference documentation for software, datasheets of electronic components, reports, etc. The main reason of its popularity is in its high portability: PDF files can be viewed on computers with various operating systems using a free viewer of PDF files Adobe Acrobat Reader. Therefore various programs and utilities for converting text files of different formats to PDF documents are much in demand at present. Today I will tell you about one such program - Simple PDF Editor.
As a matter of fact, Simple PDF Editor is a simple but rather powerful and convenient text editor that has enough capabilities to create and edit Rich Text Format (RTF) files. Thus, one may enter text, insert pictures, tables, format fonts, and apply bullets and numbering in frames of capabilities of RTF. Of course, comparing to MS Word documents, RTF files have less flexibility and capabilities. For example, pictures in RTF documents may be placed only in text (picture streamlining and placement above or under the text are not possible). There are also no graphics elements such as lines, rectangles, etc. But on the whole editing RTF files with Simple PDF Editor is much more convenient and powerful than with standard MS Windows editor of RTF files WordPad. It is worth noting in what extent Simple PDF Editor handles PDF documents. Simple PDF Editor is not a PDF editor, and you would not be able to open existing PDF documents. What you can do using Simple PDF Editor is saving created with Simple PDF Editor or just opened in the program text documents (TXT and RTF) as PDF documents. To save document as PDF there is a button Save As PDF File on a toolbar at the top of Simple PDF Editor window. After clicking this button a window with settings for output PDF file appears. Here you may set such settings as Author, Title, Page Size and Orientation, Page Numbering, Compression, Header and Footer, Viewer Preferences and Security (Print Enabled, Copy Information Enabled, Edit Enabled). Thus, the number of settings available is quite big, with Security Settings significantly increasing the value of Simple PDF Editor, because one of the main features of PDF files is capability to protect files from copying and editing. Viewer Preferences allow to set which elements of PDF viewer Adobe Acrobat Reader (Toolbar, Menu Bar) will be displayed/hidden when opening the PDF document.
An interface of Simple PDF Editor is nice and simple. It is fast and easy to edit documents using such buttons as Shrink Font By One Point, Grow Font By One Point, Insert Picture, Insert Table, and many more standard for text editors buttons.
As to inconvenient things in the Simple PDF Editor interface, they are the following. First, Simple PDF Editor does not keep list of recently opened files that in editors is usually displayed in File menu. Second, in Open File dialog you can search for files only using *.txt and *.rtf patterns, although many other file types (*.ini, *.htm, etc.) are also text files and might be required to open and convert to PDF. Concluding, Simple PDF Editor is a convenient text editor with the capability to save files to PDF. It might be useful for those who do not need to create documents with complex design that can be created only using powerful PDF editors like Adobe Acrobat.
