Publisher's Description

Brainiac Behavior Engine is a highly customizable Artificial Intelligence engine that is primarily designed for creating computer role-playing games (CRPGs) that feature lifelike behavior on the part of computer-controlled characters.

Brainiac Behavior Engine requires minimal maintenance, can be tweaked in numersous directions, and provides more advanced functionality than could be created from scripts.

With Brainiac Behavior Engine you have the ability to create: intelligent and reasoned responses to player actions by any computer controlled characters; character actions that are dependant on state of mind and practical considerations; and characters that are not static or merely reactive, but that pursue their own interests and independently assign themselves goals with or without player actions.

Brainiac Behavior Engine includes a model of verbal interaction. You no longer have to painstakingly script multi-choice conversations. In Brainiac, conversation has become the use of verbal actions; a powerful tool for enabling non-linear plots.

A maximum amount of flexibility is provided with Brainiac Behavior Engine. The game designer defines character actions, goals, strategies and mindsets. The Brainiac Behavior Engine data management utility simplifies this process, and no programming skills are required.

Brainiac Behavior Engine uses a simple and effective object oriented model to simulate character decision-making processes at a high level. The three basic terms of Brainiac are goals, actions and strategies. Like in real life, characters set goals to accomplish, then look for a suitable strategy to do it (strategy includes one or more actions), and if by their approximate evaluation the actions in this strategy are doable and morally acceptable to them (which is up to their personal scores), they adopt this strategy and schedule the actions, listed in this strategy, for execution. For example, every character might want to acquire a nice-looking expensive item, but some might be able to purchase it, some might be able to rob the owner or steal the item.
