Publisher's Description

Portable.NET is a suite of tools designed for building and running .NET applications and web services. The project includes a complete software development kit, runtime engine, and libraries (focused on compatibility with the ECMA specifications).

The software development kit includes compilers for C# and C allowing you to develop new .NET applications or migrate your legacy applications to .NET using the Portable.NET C libraries. Also included is a collection of professional development tools such as an assembler, linker, assembly cache manager, and more.

Portable.NET supports a large range of operating systems, including GNU/Linux, Windows, MacOS X, FreeBSD, and has been tested on x86, PowerPC, ARM, Sparc, PARISC, s390, Alpha, and IA-64 processors.

DotGNU Portable.NET is focused on compatibility with the ECMA-334 and ECMA-335 specifications for C# and CLI, and with Microsoft's commercial CLI implementation. The main goal is to make it easy to write portable application programs which work well both on DotGNU Portable.NET and on other .NET platforms.

In addition, we want to make sure that many application programs which were written for Microsoft's .NET platform (with no consideration for portability) will work well with DotGNU on many operating systems.
