Emprobe is a recreational gamestyle program to explore the mandelbrot fractal with. You zoom in or out using a movable rectangular frame of adjustable size to mark the next render area. The produced image - whose width & height can be altered separately pixel by pixel - may
then be saved as a TGA image file.
When zoomed in far, the program uses the 80-bit 'floatx80' or 128-bit 'float128' higher precision floating point formats; part of the free SoftFloat
floating-point arithmetic package. Processing times do increase when using these
software-implemented custom float types but means one can zoom in quite far and get to see rare images, so Emprobe is also an
investment for future computers to grow into.
This fullscreen-only application is entirely keyboard-operated (the mouse isn't used at all).
This program is no longer available for download from our website. Please contact the author of Emprobe at for any additional information.
