Warblade awarded Softpile Most Popular

It's a typical considering the idea and not worst by the number of options arcade. The action takes place in the space. The Earth is in danger – artful aliens attack. They mimicry and sometimes look quite like domestic flies. But it's high time to take drastic measures. Skillful rescuers, you must save our world. Shoot aliens up!

Rescuer's spaceship can move along the bottom of the screen. The target of the game is to clean the screen from all aliens at all levels. While destroying them, you get extra points, can collect bonuses and then shop for better weapons and extra feature.

Be careful! Guileful aliens may send out bonuses that will have an unpredictable impact. In particular, a "drunk mode" bonus – a one in the shape of a bottle – will invert your spaceship control.

An ever dark screen symbolizes the eternal endless cosmos. As already mentioned, rescue's spaceship is at the bottom of the screen. You can play the game alone, or make an alliance with another player and fight against aliens, or start a duel game with another player to compete who is a better rescue.

The left and right panes of the window display the information on each player. The information from top to bottom is as follows:

Money. It shows how much money a player has to shop for new weapons, extra speed for the fighter, etc.

Fighters left. It shows how many lives the player has left.

Points multiply. It's a bonus. Any points a player gets, will be multiplied by 2 or 5, but only for a fixed period of time. So, act quicker.

Rank marks. The ranks themselves are: ensign, lieutenant, commander, captain, admiral. But to be prompted to the higher rank, a player has to have enough money and collect 6 rank marks of different colours. The latter you may catch when you destroy chief aliens.

Armor. Shows armor bonuses a player has got or armor bought in the shop.

3 colored lines S,B,T are bars that show speed the fighter has, how many bullets are available, and how much bonus time the player can enjoy this or that bonus (i.e. shield, scoop, multiply etc.)

The menu screen of the game gives a list of some of the bonus items.

Bonuses and weapons: extra life, extra bullet, extra speed shield, alien scoop, smart bomb, multiply score, meteor storm, random bonus, decreased strength, extra bonus time, new rank, coins of different values.

In general, the structure of Warblade is like this: 4 sublevels of a level to shoot'em up – cyberspace – shops – a new level. Levels after level, aliens are getting stronger and more inventive.

There are also sub-games inside the game, for example, the navigation through a meteor storm. The player's task here is not to fire, but to get through floating meteors. Rocks of different sizes threaten to break your ship up. To manage to survive in the storm is a challenging task, but if you get to the end, the award will be a considerable bonus. Pressing fire, the player accelerates the ship, releasing fire makes the speed lower.

When choosing a game at the Warblade launch, you may prefer to play a time trial mode game. The essence here is to get the highest possible score in just 3 minutes. The difficulty settings are not applied and you have to use just one weapon.

Being a typical arcade, Warblade is intuitively easy to understand and play. The menu and options screens contain all necessary information and offer to adjust the game to personal tastes.

Here users select one of 4 levels of difficulty, set the volume of music and sound effects, determine whether to use voice messages and what number of stars and explosion sparks should be. Here we also set bullet intensity, background brightness, collision detection, and so on.

Warblade offers the opportunity to add favorite mp3 or module music to the game. This sounds great. And to set various pieces for the title screen, games themselves, for meteor storms, big troubles, etc. is simply wonderful. To serve this 2 options are provided: to start a jukebox system pressing F6 button and to manually copy and rename music files into the Warblade directory.

All in all, while trying Warblade, I changed my attitude from typical towards a classical arcade. It's gripping and interesting to play. For the full version of the game, developers promise "huge explosions of colors and flashing debris and sparks". Accompanied by high end weapons, this will give you "an addictive intense action packed game full of plasma and lights". Judging from the trial version (which I played), the probability of such promises being truth is very high.
