Would you like to play a game of chess? Many people can't imagine their lives without this popular intellectual game. The history of chess counts about two hundred years, it underwent various changes and transformations, but it still attracts new and new admirers.

Computer chess playing and programs date back 1951, when Dietrich Prinz wrote the original chess playing program for a general purpose computer. But as a matter of fact, the first chess program was written before computers were actually invented. It was written by Alan Turing who knew that programmable computers were coming and that, once they were invented, they would be able to play chess.

Of course, all these computers and programs were comparatively week and a professional chess player could easily win them. But little by little, new stronger machines were invented, which managed to stand against human intellect and even win. Remember a famous Deep Blue, the machine Garry Kasparov played against.

Today I would like to present you the program Chess Master Rk, which is developed to play chess both with the computer and another player, as you want. But before discussing this program, let's regard the objectives and rules of chess in general.

The object in chess is to checkmate your opponent's King. Checkmate, or just "mate" occurs when a king is attacked and the king cannot escape capture on the next move.

Chess is played on a board with 64 squares set up in the following way: the Rooks begin the game in the corners. The Knights (many beginning players call them horses) are next to the Rooks. The Bishops start next to the Knights. And then the King and the Queen.

Note that white and black Queens both begin the game on squares of their color. The white Queen begins on a white square. The black Queen begins on a black square.

And, at the beginning of the game, always start with a white square in the lower right corner of the chessboard.

To begin the game, white moves first, and then black, taking turns until checkmate, or one player resigns, or both players agree to a draw.

Chess Rk allows you, first of all, to choose the skin and colour of chess-board and pieces. Then, you select the appropriate level, for example, novice or master among 5 given ones. All your settings are saved, and you may also save a game to continue later.

There are nevertheless some drawbacks of Chess Master Rk. In this way, you can't set the control of the time and play rapid chess or blitz, thought it is important if you want to preparer for some special chess tournament. Also, the general level of difficulty is not so high as it turned out to be. Thus, my father who is a candidate hatter needed about 3 minutes to win the computer on the master level.

So, everything depends what you are looking for. If you want to play just for fun, why not… But if you would like to develop your skills, you'd better find other program.
