Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was originally supposed to be an expansion pack, but id Software opted to kill the single-player campaign for reasons unknown. What was left - the multiplayer component - they released as a free, standalone game that brings a host of new features to the Wolfenstein canon. Team-based tactical combat headlines this new version, with some communication and RPG elements, played on maps in Western Europe and Egypt.

The game made its debut in May of 2003 and retains its popularity today, with servers packed to the gills, likely due to the depth of its gameplay. You play as the Axis or Allies and can choose to assume roles on your team such as soldier, medic, engineer etc., and the map designs are stellar. Wolfenstein fans and multiplayer junkies in general owe it to themselves to download Enemy Territory - it easily rivals other popular multiplayer games and amazingly, it's free!
