Next time when your sign in with your .net account, a dialog will pop out immediately to tell you that your friend have sent you a message when you is offline.
To send and receive offline messages, you and your friends need to install ENat Offline for MSN Messenger and run it. The add-on is very small, only 300K bytes after installing. And it doesn't occupy your precious desktop space because it is fully integrated into MSN Messenger.
