MP3 Producer awarded Softpile Most Popular

If you plan to rip your collection of CDs to MP3 files, I recommend to try MP3Producer. Easy-to-use interface, flexible settings, detailed help – these and many other features you will find in this program.

At present MP3 file format has become very popular. With online stores selling more and more MP3 songs, audio CDs are getting less in demand. The reason of this is in convenience of MP3 files. It is much easier to find an MP3 file on hard drive than take a CD, put it to CD-ROM drive and wait till it is read out. Besides, MP3 files can be easily uploaded to mobile phones, flash MP3 players and other storage devices. Even if you just burn 10 ripped audio CDs to one data CD, you save a lot of physical space. Therefore many people from time to time think of ripping their CD collections to MP3. MP3Producer is a good tool for such task.

MP3Producer has three operating modes: CD to WAV, CD to MP3 and WAV to MP3. Thus, there are a direct way to produce MP3 files out of audio CD content and indirect way with intermediate WAV files stage. Non-compressed WAV files could be useful, because they can be edited with any audio editor.

Program interface is quite convenient thanks to icons on buttons and important information about current MP3 settings, output location for produced files, operating mode and so on. MP3 and WAV settings are located on CD / WAV / MP3 tab, that is very convenient. In many other similar programs such settings are usually “hidden” somewhere in program settings and they are not easy to find.

As can be seen on this screenshot, practically all settings of MP3 file format are presented here, including Constant/Variable Bitrate modes, MPEG1/MPEG2 modes, sample rate, Mono/Joint Stereo/Stereo channel modes, bitrate, ‘original’ bit, ‘copyright’ bit, etc.). It makes MP3Producer a very powerful tool.

Besides, for MP3 settings there are some presets (CD, HI FI, PHONE, etc). In help they are all described in detail, that’s why you can perform a professional ripping without any specific knowledge about MP3 settings. But if you are willing to find out more about MP3 file format, MP3 encode engines, explanations of terms, you can find this and other information in the detailed help.

After inserting an audio CD to CD-ROM drive, tracks are displayed on the tab Track List along with some other information, such as Start time, Play Time, sizes of WAV and MP3 files for current settings. It is very convenient that estimated sizes of output files are displayed, because it helps to find optimal settings for MP3 files when disk space is limited.

There is also a built-in CD-player so that every track of a CD can be played. In addition, there is a convenient button in the bottom right angle of the program window to call standard Volume/Mixer window.

And now I want to tell about the feature that just astonished me! This feature is called Get CD info from freeDB. I have never used Internet CD databases before, however with MP3Producer I decided to try searching for information (names of tracks) in FreeDB database on one old CD of a local not very popular musical singer. In a few moments MP3Producer connected to FreeDB and displayed real song titles as they are on the CD cover. Earlier whenever I ripped CDs I had to enter track titles manually, and this was the main reason for not ripping my whole collection of CDs. But this feature makes ripping of CDs a very fast and easy process – all you need is just inserting CDs and getting MP3 files. Beside track titles ID3 tag fields are also filled with the necessary information, although you can manually edit these fields on ID3 Tag tab.

In addition to all listed values of the program, MP3Producer has a multi-language interface. In MP3Producer v. 2.30 there are 26 languages available. Furthermore, in the help it is explained how you can translate interface to new languages on your own, although I doubt that it may be necessary.

Now I want to tell about few shortcomings of the program.

First, the program does not have MP3 to WAV mode that might be required to edit files in non-compressed state. Then, there is no MP3 to MP3 mode, but sometimes such mode would be very helpful, for example to convert Variable Bitrate MP3 to Constant Bitrate MP3. But according to the title of the program, the developer did not purpose to make a universal MP3 converter and implemented only functionality to convert data in only one direction CD to WAV to MP3.

Summing up, it is worth noting that MP3Producer is a great tool for ripping CDs and producing MP3 files. Flexible settings and nice multi-language interface would bring high popularity to it.

MP3Producer in shareware mode works for 10 days without any limitations. Before buying (registering) the program I strongly recommend you to check up a list of programs with discounts at Softpile.com.

This is a very useful program. It is light, quick, and easy to use, yet offers all the features you'd expect and more. The only thing I would suggest for future versions, is the means to convert from MP3 to WAV. something that I often use, and don't have the ability to do with this program. The MP3 comressor is excellent. At 128kb you get fantastic quality. 160 will give you CD quality. You'll never have to go higher than that, saving you diskspace.
