3GP data format was introduced to unify all the media content that is transferred in 3rd Generation Mobile System and may be played on mobile phones of this generation. Therefore need in converters which can convert media files of various formats to 3GP, so that they might be uploaded then to mobile phones, appeared. Xilisoft 3GP Video Converter has a modern stylish silver-black design. Elements on the window are placed in very convenient and easy-to-understand way. There is a field to add source media files at the top of the window. As source files practically all audio and video files may be used, including MPEG, VOB, AC3, 3GPP, Real Media and Windows Media files.

Source files can be played before conversion in Preview field that is located below the Source files field. This feature is very useful, but it has one defect: often when playing a file, sound goes faltering, and it bothers a little. But it would be fairly also to note that when Preview is used, a message appears informing that "the function is only for preview purpose. The quality of output file may differ from what you see here".

When a source file is selected, to the right from the Preview field summary of all main parameters of this file is displayed.

Below the Preview field two list boxes Profile and Destination are located, where type of output files and location to store them should be set. There are many types of output files that may be applied, including 3GPP, AVI, DivX, MP3, MPEG and some others.

To the right of the program window a field to set parameters for the selected in Profile box output file format is located. Practically all parameters of the chosen file format may be set here. Moreover, you may specify a codec to be used for conversion. Also you may set Crop and Pad for video, and, I think, it is very useful feature, because when you want to watch a movie on your mobile's display, it may be better to watch only particular field of movie screen. However, I could not manage to get a cropped file that can be properly played. Probably, it was not because of incorrect operation of the program, but because of bad quality of the media files I used.

All the features of the program are briefly described in program's Help. Besides, when any parameter of output file is selected, an explanation about it is displayed below the Output Files Parameters field.

Summing up, I can say, that, of course, I could not check all the conversion directions which are available in this program (there are too many of them), and some of them might produce incorrect files. But it is typical for modern audio/video files, because some of them are created with non-standard codecs, and some might just not fit for codecs used in this program. But as a whole, the main conversion direction mentioned in the program's title (conversion to 3GP) works correctly. Moreover, such conversions like WAV to MP3, DVD to AVI, and some others tested work also well. There is only one limitation in this trial version: only 2 minutes of each file are encoded. But this is quite enough to understand if this program is worth buying.
