InstallWatch accurately documents changes made to your PC when you install/remove software or hardware, or make configuration changes.

When you make a significant system change that you would like to document (such as a program installation, removal, or configuration), InstallWatch takes 'snapshots' of your INI files, Windows Registry, and other files and folders. It then compares this 'before' and 'after' state information to precisely locate all additions, deletions, or modifications. The program stores the 'delta' information in a database that gives you the flexibility to print detailed reports, export HTML files for Internet display or REG files for automated Registry modification, and create 'Install Kits' that enable quick software and configuration distribution to other PCs.

The program's brute-force 'snapshot' technique accurately identifies changes to your system, but the process can be rather lengthy, especially if your computer's hard drive(s) and Registry are large and you need to install several programs. A 'professional' version is available that can reduce some of the overhead by allowing you to specify which drives, directories, and portions of the Registry to scan.

Very good. Works especially well with Win9x (I've never tried it on WinXP/2K/NT). Does not have to be "online" or running when instllation of new software takes place, instead it can take a snapshot of the whole system (Registry, files, INIs) and analyze afterwords.
