As is known, there always can not be too much disk space, even if at first after buying a new hard disk one thinks that this new disk would never be full. There are different ways how to free some disk space. For example, standard utility from MS Windows allows freeing some space by deleting temporary files and files from Recycle Bin and by compressing rarely used files. NoClone offers to free some disk space by finding and deleting duplicate files on a hard disk. But it is not the only thing that this program can do. Let's discuss main features of the program in more detail.

NoClone has a standard for MS Windows applications interface, as is common for professional PC utilities. However, there is an element that catches one's eye: Search button looks a bit weird because of big italic font used. As for me, italic font is not acceptable on controls of any program.

But design is not the main thing in a program, therefore let's turn to capabilities of NoClone.

There is a powerful search engine implemented in NoClone. It allows finding files with zero size, duplicates or non-duplicates, with the same file names and truncated files. As in a standard MS Windows search tool, one may specify file types (as a pattern like *.tmp or as a group of file types from a list, for example, Photos/Images or Music/Songs), file size (Min File Size and Max File Size) and date of last modification of files to be looked for. Moreover, one may add to search hidden folders and files and exclude Windows folder (to protect operating system from accidental deleting of a vital system files). Additionally, in contrast to the standard Windows search tool, in NoClone several search locations may be specified, that is sometimes very convenient.

When all the criteria are set, by clicking the Search button a new search starts. On completion of the search that may take long time a message appears. It informs of the total number of files checked and the number of files which conform to the set criteria:

Found files are displayed in a result list on additional part of the program window at the bottom:

Having selected several or all the found files, using Task button you may choose what to do next with them. Selected files may be opened with a default program for corresponding file type or with a default text editor. Also you may view files properties in standard Properties window. Marked files may be deleted from disk, moved or copied to a new location, or renamed. Besides, there is a set of functions for convenient marking of files in the result list (Mark all, Mark selected files, Invert marks, Clear all marks, Remove marked files from the result list). Also the result list can be exported in comma separated value (CSV) file.

Additionally, double click on any file in the result list runs or opens this file (as in Windows Explorer). If there are Photos/Images files in the result list, they may be previewed in a small Preview field to the right from the result list.

Because often a search of unneeded files to free some disk space is performed using the same definite settings and criteria, it is very convenient that these settings (search session) may be saved to or loaded from a disk.

Concluding, I really enjoyed working with NoClone. It has although complex, but very easy-to-understand interface and set of powerful tools for searching files. I think, this program would become a good assistant both for advanced system administrators and PC users willing to clean up their hard disks.
