If you are used to set passwords to your MS Word documents, then probably you face sometimes with the situation when you forget one of your passwords. In this case try to recover it with Word Password Recovery.

In modern hi-tech world many documents, including those with very valuable information, are stored as electronic documents only. To protect them there are usually means to set a password that limits access to the document. But someday it is quite probable that the password is forgotten. In this case, if a protection was ideal, nobody would be able to open the document and the information would be lost. But in reality every protection has its back doors, and Word Password Recovery clearly demonstrates it.

So, Word Password Recovery is aimed to recover lost or forgotten passwords for MS Word documents. Let’s discuss its features.

Word Password Recovery has a quite convenient interface. It is easy enough to guess how to work with the program without looking to a help. Process of searching passwords is supplemented with explanations in a right field of the program window. Also the following information is displayed: number of checked passwords, current length of a password, average speed of searching, elapsed and remaining times and some more.

There are three algorithms to recover a password implemented in the program. They are Brute-force (simple fitting with various combinations of characters), Boost-Up Attack and Dictionary (searching for a password in a dictionary of the most popular passwords ever used). Every algorithm has a number of settings aimed to reduce time of searching. In the help these settings are not described, but there is a brief instruction as to which algorithm when should be applied.

It is worth noting, that the shareware version of the program does not let to asses the potential of the program, because it has a serious limitation: only passwords of three or less characters can be recovered. Therefore shareware version is unlikely to help you with recovering a real password. And I understand the developer of this program, why this limitation was applied. Usually one needs to recover a password only rarely, and if one could do it with a shareware unlicensed version, he/she just would not buy the license after that, you see.

But even in a limited shareware version I managed to find one weak point of the program. During the installation of the program to the program’s folder, test file example.doc was placed. It has “abc” string as a password, and the program had easily recovered it.

The same excellent result was for other combinations of characters of standard English charset. Then I tried the password made up of three ‘o’ with umlaut from German charset, and the program failed to define it.

Therefore if you set a password using non-English characters, it is not unlikely that this password won’t be recognized by Word Password Recovery v.1.0k. But truly speaking, Microsoft Company is also not so right in its statement displayed when setting a password for a document, because it says, that there is no any way to recover a password.

In summary, if you have forgotten a password for a document with very important information, then Word Password Recovery for $29.95 might be very helpful. But also remember that unfortunately this program is not all-powerful and may fail.
