When we accidentally delete some information from our computers, we wish it could be recovered. We greatly appreciate the programs performing such recovering. But when we delete files and folders containing private or business information purposefully, we wish it would be lost completely, totally and for ever. East-Tech Eraser performs such deletion. It completely erases previously deleted, but potentially recoverable folders making your sensitive information surely sink into oblivion. It performs original trustworthy erasure. Add here utter removal of all traces of your Internet activity. And you privacy is fully protected. The program's main window presents all available options. The basic operations are represented by 3 buttons on the left. The Privacy Guard removes:
The Erase Deleted Data option allows to completely remove previously deleted files. This is an efficient way to overcome a potentially unpleasant trick that when we delete a file using the Windows option, the file is still preserved on the hard disk. So, to retrieve the information is not really difficult. To completely erase deleted information, the space on the hard disk should be overwritten and this is what East-Tec Erasure does successfully. The Add Files & Folders option provides original secure erasure of files and folders. The Erase Files & Folders button serves to quickly start an erasure process. The upper horizontal pane contains the Recycle Bin Files, Deleted Emails, Scheduler, Media Wiper and Updates options.
Now a bit more in detail about every operation. The Privacy Guard has the Basic and the Advanced modes. The Basic mode is recommended for most users and performs erasure automatically, without necessity to comprehend and choose among erasing methods and settings. The Advanced mode offers to check in 6 major sensitive areas: Windows, Browsers, Applications, Pear2Pear, News and Email readers and Custom.
In the Eraser Options window we set configuration and erase options further applicable for all performed processes. Among the configuration options are: shell (Explorer) integration options, password, permission (what actions this or that user is allowed to do) and priority (processor capability to be used) settings. Erase options allows to choose ways to wipe files (overwrite file slack; scramble file and folder name, date, size, etc), what actions to confirm (erase launch, folder tree erasing, erase interrupt, etc). Here we also set a period of data retention, masks of files to be excluded, and, of course, the level of security (wipe method).
The East-Tec Eraser's developers especially highlight the number of the program's erasing methods. Users can choose among 12 wiping methods. The left pane of the Security Level window gives a list of all available methods. The right pane contains a selected method's description, security level (Low, Normal, High), and also whether it stops software and hardware recovery tools, or works with compressed files. Advanced users have an opportunity to create a new, or edit one of the existing methods.
So, the program's main options gives us general understanding of what to set and how it works. The shot below presents East-Tec Eraser at work.
East-Tec Eraser has a simple, user-friendly interface. Every appearing window has a Help button allowing to refer to a corresponding Help section. The Add files and folders option supports drag&drop. Files and folders to be erased can be sorted by different parameters and viewed in different modes. As, upon deletion, most files and folders find themselves in the Recycle Bin, the presence of the corresponding button erasing all the information in the Recycle Bin beyond recovery simplifies and quickens the process. Another place storing piles of sensitive information is our Email Client. East-Tec Erasure works with Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Netscape Mail, Eudora, IncrediMail and Pegasus. To completely destroy the contents of previously deleted emails, there exist the "Deleted Email" button. Just as backup programs offer scheduling services for periodical automatic backups, East-Tec Eraser provides the Scheduler option for periodical automatic erasure. The feature runs erasing processes at the specified time or when the computer is idle. It also offers the Panic (Anti-Boss) feature closing all windows at the click of the Hot-key and starting the program to hide evidences of your "being busy while not being working".
The 'Media Wiper' button helps to format drives: floppy, CD/DVD-RW, USB flash drive, ZIP, Jaz, etc. As a conclusion, East-Tec Erasure is a first-rate tool both for regular and advanced users, home and small businesses. It's user-friendly and easy-to-use, though providing a complete set of necessary advanced options. So, first of all download the trial version, get acquainted and appreciate the program's functionality and convenience; then, most likely, you will agree with the experts and critics' opinion on East-Tec Erasure: it's excellent.
