Use of Registry Mechanic is akin to a preventive checkup. Use it whenever you've noticed slower system performance or weird software problems. Registry Mechanic scans the Windows registry, finds incorrect or obsolete information, cleans up and repairs registry entries. To use Registry Mechanic you don't need to be an advanced user and be aware of all peculiarities of the system operation. The process doesn't require your persistent collaboration. Just a bit of common sense. First of all, several words about what we are going to work upon. The Microsoft Computer Dictionary defines the registry as "A central hierarchical database used in Microsoft systems to store information necessary to configure the system for one or more users, applications and hardware devices". The registry contains information that is constantly referenced during operation, such as profiles for each user, the applications installed on the computer; and the types of documents each can create, property sheet settings for folders and application icons, what hardware exists on the system; and which ports are being used. When you use Windows, the registry keeps growing. We install/uninstall programs; create/delete file, etc. And even if we do it properly, the registry might collect obsolete and unnecessary information. Missing or corrupt hardware drivers, or orphaned startup programs have their share in registry pollution. Gradually it becomes cluttered and fragmented. This can lead to slower system performance (up to its crash) and many weird software problems. So, use of Registry Mechanic is akin to a preventive checkup whenever you've noticed above mentioned tricks.Registry Mechanic is one of the world's most popular programs of the kind. The reason might be "a high-performance detection algorithm to quickly identify missing and invalid references". I would single it out because it's easy to use and to comprehend. It doesn't pretend to be perfect and explains various problems that might happen when using it. It isn't overloaded with additional useful features just to look more solid. You can complete a deep full scan or set a customer scan. To complete a full scan just click Scan Your Registry on the Main Status Screen.
A scan result will look like this: groups of problems on the left and problems themselves on the right. Problems can be of High Priority (that needing repairing badly), Medium and Low Priority. Curious users might get acquainted with the essence of a trouble and its location. You can then choose to selectively clean each item or automatically repair them all. Press Repair and wait. In general, that's it.
You can set a customer scan or a scan for shortcuts defining locations to scan in the Options window.
Before repairing, Registry Mechanics automatically creates a system backup. When somehow you've decided that before repairing an application used to be more sure-footed, open a backup of the entire registry and choose the backup of the application. One click on the Restore button will cancel previous changes. But to have such an opportunity, don't uncheck Create a System Restore Point before Repair in the General Options window. One more option improving the system operation is Compact Registry. It removes gaps, wasted space and corrupt keys from the registry, and performs physical defragmentation of the Windows registry files., The registry compacting processes differ depending on your Windows system. Help section gives us some explanations and tips.
In general, if you don't appreciate surprises from your computer system, take precautions, use Registry Mechanic and clean your system registry regularly. In the final analyses, preventive measures always beat global ones. And, what is more important, – assure smooth computer functioning.
