So if you share a database among several SpaceObServer services, this directory will always be scanned by the same SpaceObServer service. * If the System Service failed to connect to the database, an error message is now shown in the SpaceObServer user interface. * The size of the Configure Scans window, and the width of the columns shown in it, are saved now. * In the Configure Scans window the number of files for a scanned directory is shown now. Within a scan this value is frequently updated, just like the state column where the currently scanned directory is shown. * If the SpaceObServer system service terminates unexpectedly, it will now restart on its own. * Bugfix: In the last version the SpaceObServer system service sometimes terminates the service. * Bugfix: The column 'Full Path' of the Details view showed only the file name if the 'Show Details Flat' mode was activated. * Bugfix: If SpaceObServer moved checked files to a ZIP archive the file system structure was not stored in the zip file. * Some minor bug fixes and improvements have been incorporated. v 2.0 updated on Feb 14, 2006 * The database servers ORACLE 9/10 and MS SQL Server 2005 are now supported. (No Unicode support for ORACLE servers by now) * There is no need to rescan local NTFS drives any more! By analyzing the NTFS Change Journals SpaceObServer is now able to update the database constantly. This results in disc usage information which is always up to date. For a scanned drive the 'Use NTFS Change Journal' option can be activated under Scan / Configure Scans. * SpaceObServer is now able to detect NTFS Alternate Data Streams (ADS). Check the option 'Include NTFS Alternate Data Streams' (Scan / Configure Scans) to add ADS sizes to the allocated size of files/folders. Unfortunately the necessary API calls slow down the scans. * The performance of the first scan was increased by adding only folder data to the database. In a following the files will be added to the database as well. * A new form (Scan / Configure Scans) has been created for managing the scans. This form replaces the 'Scan' tab of the options dialog. * The new tab 'Service' of the options dialog allows to control the state of the SpaceObServer system service and set global options like the priority of this service. * File Search: You can now additionally filter files by the attributes 'OFFLINE' and 'ALTERNATE DATA STREAM'(only if 'Include ADS' is activated). * File Search: A right click menu has been added that allows checking or unchecking all items in a list. * MS Access: A new Access database file can now be created on demand. Just use the Select database button in the Options dialog (View / Options / Database) and enter a file name. * Details: The 'Details' list now fills much faster then in former versions. * Percentage values in lists are now also represented as a bar in the background of the cell. * Status Bar: There is a new area in the status bar on which the connected database type and server is displayed. Double click this area for immediate access to the database configuration. * In the context menu of all lists there is the new entry 'Print List'. This feature prints the shown list with all visible entries. * Extensions: The new column 'Description' in the Extensions list shows the description of the extension, just like the column 'File Type' in the Details view. * When you remove a file system structure from the database (Scan / Remove Directory form Database) now a progress dialog is shown, where you can cancel the deletion. * Some minor bug fixes and many improvements have been incorporated. v 1.31 updated on Oct 27, 2005 * Bugfix: Scans sometimes stopped with the Error 'Bad variable type'. This was happening only on Windows 2000 platforms with a MS SQL Server 2000 database. * The performance of reading historical data from a MS Access database (History tab) has been increased. * Bugfix: The 'Selected search options' in the search dialog (Tools / File Search / Predefined) has now line breaks within single search options. * Bugfix: The last few columns of the Excel export contained the same type of information. * Some minor bug fixes and improvements have been incorporated. v 1.3 updated on Oct 11, 2005 * The IBM DB2 database is now supported. * You can now define how many days historical information of the file system is kept in the database. This value customizable for every scanned directory in the options dialog (View / Options / Scan / Keep historical Data). * New column in Details View: In the column 'Size Difference' you can see the increments of files and folders. The period is customizable on the 'History' tab ('From:' - 'To:'). * On the 'History' tab you can now select dates before the day of the first scan. The sizes shown for the time before the first scan are not exact. They are estimations based on the NTFS creation date of the scanned files. * With the new option 'Filter Folders' in the options dialog (View / Options / View) you may exclude small folders from your reports. * The new option 'Show Checkboxes' (View / Show Checkboxes) shows checkboxes to the Tree and Details view of SpaceObServer. Checked files or folders can be deleted, moved or zipped (Tools / Move checked items). This option is active automatically after a file search was performed (Tools / File Search). * You can now select all entries of the details view pressing 'CTRL-A'. * Folders, which could not be accessed during a scan, are now shown in red color and are marked with '[Access Denied]'. * The automatic installation of MSDE has been improved (View / Options / Database / Download free MS SQL Server (MSDE)). * Bugfix: The line charts in the 'History' view sometimes didn't refresh until the last value was filled in. * Bugfix: The pie chart in the 'Parts' view sometimes didn't change after another type of size (allocated space, percent, ...) was selected for the tree view. * Bugfix: Sometimes the database timeout was too short for very complex requests. * Some minor bug fixes and improvements have been incorporated. v 1.21 updated on Jul 20, 2005 * New command line option: As additional parameters you can pass directory paths to SpaceObServer. Scanned directories will be opened, for not scanned directories a scan is started. * In the context menu of the 'Extensions'-/'Users' view you now can limit the shown files of all views to the selected extension/user. * The automation to download and install MSDE (View / Options / Database) was improved. You can customize the new instance name and the password for the user 'sa'. * The help file format was changed from Winhelp (.HLP) to HTMLHelp (.CHM). * Bugfix: SpaceObServer can now handle case-sensitive SQL Server databases. * Bugfix: The help file was not detected automatically (Help / Help F1). v 1.2 updated on Jun 23, 2005 * The performance for accessing directory sizes has been increased enormously by caching size information inside the database. Now browsing the directory tree is much faster than it was in the previous versions. * Now directories selected for their first scan are shown immediately in the directory tree. While scanning, the shown size of the directory is automatically updated in a customizable interval (View / Options / View / Update screen during scan). * Subfolders of scanned directories can now also be selected as root directories of the tree view. When a subfolder of a scanned directory is selected/entered, the already existing data inside the database is used. * The priority of scan processes, in comparison with other processes, can now be customized in the Options dialog (View / Options / Scan). You can choose among 3 priority values: low, normal and high. * The column width for the printed report and the details view can now be customized in the Options dialog (View / Options / Columns / Column width). * Some minor bug fixes and improvements have been incorporated. v 1.1 updated on May 11, 2005 * When the 'History' tab is selected, the size growth of each folder is shown in the directory tree. * The new tool 'Simulate previous file system' allows you to show the structure, size and the properties of a directory tree for a previous date. * You can now save your own customized file searches in the 'Predefined' tab of the 'File Search'. Saved file searches can be activated by one mouse click in the Tools menu. * The file search results now offer check boxes for selecting files. The checked files can be deleted, moved or archived in a zip-file. * Multiple drives can now be shown in the directory tree at the same time. * The pie chart of the 'Parts' tab can now show statistics for the space occupied by folders, users and file types. * The 'Scanned Directories' combo box supports now auto completion and drive icons, like the combo box in the Windows Explorer. * The file icons are now shown in the 'File Type' tab. * Deleted folders and files are shown grayed now. * Some minor bug fixes and improvements have been incorporated. v 1.0 updated on Apr 13, 2005 * First final release
