Cdenc is an application that allows users to convert entire audio CDs into a designated folder for subsequent CD-ROM burning.
Another great feature of cdenc is its ability to generate html files, which users can browse through using a normal html browser. However, it should be noted that users will not be able to play multiple titles at once with this method. Cdenc also generates bitmaps for the osd of Yamakawa/Raite DVD/MP3 player using Gimp and mpeg2encode.
Although cdenc does not have a graphical user interface, it is designed as a clean commandline script, making it suitable for machines without X11. Cdenc can also work backgrounded, allowing users to continue working on other tasks while cdenc encodes their music.
Once correctly configured, using cdenc is simple. Users just need to insert an audio CD and call "cdenc -medname mp3cd001". Cdenc will then test whether the CD is not already on another media and, if not, start the complete grabbing, compression, and index generation.
It should be noted that cda(xmcd) and Gimp have changed a lot since the initial release of cdenc, meaning cdenc will not run with the actual versions. The developer plans to change the code to use libaudiocd, but this will take some time.
In the latest release, cdenc has replaced the routine "double" through sprintf, thanks to Travis Whitton. Additionally, it has been made ready to work with Gimp 1.1.18. Overall, cdenc is a great software for users looking to easily encode their audio CDs, set correct mp3 info tags, and generate html files and bitmaps for their DVD/MP3 player's osd.
