Cow is a software that creates wave files by using graphs for amplitude and frequency, similar to a waveform editor.
One of the significant advantages of Cow is that it utilizes simple sound synthesis via classes that enable it to generate wave files with graphs for amplitude and frequency. This process was inspired by Christopher Rowley's waveform editor. To make the editing process even more comfortable for users, Cow includes a little GUI that further simplifies the process.
Additionally, Cow can produce sounds when the user connects a MIDI keyboard, thus enabling users to program the sound at various tone pitches, therefore, increasing the software's versatility. It continues to be a fun project that still works exceptionally well, and although it is no longer being actively developed, users can still enjoy its unique features.
Cowman can read MIDI events from /dev/midi00 and play the appropriate notes on /dev/dsp. Users must start the software with a cow-file as a command-line option or with a config file. For more information, users can refer to the Cowman's manpage. Overall, Cow is an exceptional software program that enables users to take their sound creation and editing needs a notch higher.
