eBook Library app offers a speed reading feature to let users read eBooks and other text files. It helps to enhance reading skills and manage digital reading collections in one place.
The app offers various ways to load an eBook, with three options on the menu available to help you find free eBooks, load an eBook from your eBookshelf, or save an eBook file to your eBookshelf. Additionally, users can simply click on the "Choose New Source" button to navigate to a text file.
One of the app’s most useful features is the ability to pause and continue at any time. For example, you might start reading an eBook and decide to finish later; you can do so by clicking the “Use Last Source” button, which will display the text at the exact line you left off on - virtually instantaneously. The app will also remember the line where you stopped and display this information when you start a new session.
Users can customize their reading experience by setting their preferred speed and choosing between automatic or manual scrolling. Additionally, the app offers users the option to adjust the display settings by selecting the line width and dimming the background text.
When eBook Library is launched for the first time, the app creates a new folder called "eBookshelf" in the Users/Documents folder, where users can store their eBooks.
Before the reading can begin, a new source file requires certain characters to be removed such as tabs, carriage returns, line feeds, and extra spaces. This process usually takes approximately two minutes for a 200 KB file on a 1GHz G4, but the time depends on the file formatting. eBook Library tries to prevent breaking words, but if needed, it handles long strings of characters that look like a single word automatically.
Finally, the app offers users clear and straightforward instructions on how to make a text source file, which includes finding plain text, us-ascii encoding with no compression, copying and pasting the desired text into a TextEdit file, formatting it, and saving it as a Unicode (UTC-8) file with a ".txt" suffix.
Overall, eBook Library is a useful software application for those hoping to engage in speed reading, who want a comprehensive means of organizing and reading eBooks on their computer.
