FakeTime Preload Library is a software that enables users to modify the system time for specific applications.
This tool is useful in several scenarios, which include running old software with y2k bugs, addressing year-2038 compliance issues, debugging time-related problems, and running specific software that ceases to run outside a certain timeframe.
FTPL has been developed primarily for and on Linux, but it is also said to function on other NIXes. However, it uses the library preload mechanism, restricting its usage with statically linked binaries.
The new version of FTPL comes with several added features, including a capability to speed up/slows down the system clock. It also intercepts calls to new system functions such as fstatat() and fstatat64(), allows fractional values for offset specification, and has a new wrapper script and a man page to ease the process of system-wide installation and use.
