Gamma Patrol is a classic space shooter game with vertical scrolling gameplay.
The developer originally intended for Gamma Patrol to be his first Linux program but had to switch to Win95 for a while due to hard disk issues. Now, with a brand new K6-2 500MHz, development is back on track under Linux. The game is built using Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL), which is a platform-independent API for games. While the primary target platform is Linux, the developer is also able to supply Windows and BeOS versions with ease, thanks to SDL and GCC.
One of the highlights of Gamma Patrol is its beautiful graphics. Almost everything in the game has been rendered with the popular PoVRay raytracer. However, the title and background music is still a work in progress, with the developer's wife recently just beginning to play with a tracker.
Overall, Gamma Patrol is an entertaining and engaging game, especially for fans of classic space shooters. Its cross-platform capabilities and support for different weapon systems add to the appeal, while the graphics make for a visually stunning experience.
