JOAP data types documentation package provides a comprehensive guide to different data types used in JOAP programming. It covers features, syntax, and examples to help developers understand how to use the data types. It does not provide any software functionality but serves as reference material.
Derived from XML-RPC, JOAP has a specific set of data types that are defined by a name used in metadata about attributes and methods. Each type is identified by a string value, which translates into element tag names in XML format. The definition, in this case, is broad, and detailed documentation can be accessed in the full JOAP documentation.
While the types are borrowed from XML-RPC, each is mapped to XML Schema datatypes that are generally more permissive. It is noteworthy that before going on the wire, input for accessors and method parameters is generally marshalled from Perl values to the 'correct' JOAP value format and back to Perl values when taken off the wire. Thus, programmers do not have to worry if their values are formatted correctly, as the values are automatically transmitted through the JOAP pipe correctly.
