Kuliax aims to introduce FOSS to Indonesian university education through its project. It seeks to provide students and educators with access to free and open-source software to enhance their learning experience.
Free and Open Source Software provides students and educators the freedom to use, study, modify, and distribute all software released under its licenses. Kuliax project aims to foster cooperation between students, lecturers, and faculty members by providing a bridge between them. This connection is called Gotong Royong in Bahasa Indonesia, symbolized by the Kuliax logo, depicting people's hands holding one another and forming a square.
The primary objective of the project is to develop a Linux distro that caters to university and campus requirements, and encourage participation from people. Kuliax, a Linux distro designed for Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and related departments, can be used by numerous other departments as well. It strives to provide a base system and applications suited to the curriculum.
Kuliax comes with various installed applications to cater to different academic needs. These include applications for desktop environment, the internet, graphics, multimedia, office work, file reading, brainstorming, dictionary, printing, wireless connectivity, statistics, data mining, mathematics, modelling, electrical and electronics, digital and microprocessor, programming, computer organization and architecture, operating systems, computer networks, network simulator, web servers, database, security, software engineering, utilities, and e-books.
Overall, the Kuliax project is highly commendable, as it promotes the use of FOSS in university education in Indonesia. The distro comes equipped with numerous software applications, and its developers are constantly working to improve it with new features and functionalities.
