Link Launcher is a tool which assists in selecting the browser to use for opening web links.
I stumbled upon Link Launcher entirely by chance, and was immediately impressed with its functionality. The fact that it is open-source and available to the Internet community simply adds to its value. For example, I use Opera as my preferred browser, but certain websites do not perform well on this platform. This meant I had to copy the link to the clipboard and then manually open the link in another browser like IE. Now, with Link Launcher, I don't have to bother with this tedious process anymore. The script works seamlessly and has already improved my browsing experience.
The script is simple and easy to navigate, but there are some ‘TODO’ items that the author plans to modify in the near future. One such modification includes the introduction of an XML-based configuration. Nevertheless, the script works perfectly for what it has been designed to do.
Link Launcher is compatible with Windows and should also work on other platforms as it was created with platform-independent code. You will need to have Ruby and Ruby/GTK package installed, as well as the sysutils/proctable Ruby library. It's as simple as that!
Overall, the tool is a great addition to anybody's browsing experience. The latest update includes a bug fix, and information on how to handle links in the HTTPS protocol has been added to the INSTALL document. Based on my personal experience, I would highly recommend Link Launcher to anyone looking for a better browsing experience, especially if you use multiple web browsers.
