LOLspeak is a translation software featuring a YAML dictionary for word translations. It specializes in translating LOLspeak with ease.
LOLspeak is built using Ruby, a dynamic, reflective, general-purpose object-oriented programming language. Ruby combines syntax inspired by Perl with Smalltalk-like features and supports multiple programming paradigms, including functional, object-oriented, and imperative. It also has a dynamic type system and automatic memory management, making it similar to Python, Perl, Lisp, Dylan, and CLU. Ruby's official implementation is written in C and is a single-pass interpreted language.
Currently, there is no official specification of the Ruby language, so its implementation is considered the de facto reference. However, there are alternative implementations of the language available, each taking a different approach. Examples include Rubinius, JRuby, YARV, and IronRuby, with JRuby providing just-in-time compilation functionality. Created by Yukihiro Matsumoto in February 1993, Ruby was released to the public in 1995. The name "Ruby" was inspired by a joke among Matsumoto's friends relating to the name of the Perl programming language.
At the time of writing, the latest stable version of Ruby's reference implementation is 1.8.6. In addition to the reference implementation, several other virtual machines are being developed for Ruby. These include JRuby, a port of Ruby to the Java platform, IronRuby, an implementation for the .NET Framework produced by Microsoft, and Rubinius, an interpreter modeled after self-hosting Smalltalk virtual machines. Overall, LOLspeak and Ruby are a delightful match for anyone who loves to play with language in unique and creative ways.
