The software, Realtime Cubic Reflection Mapping, allows for the creation of three-dimensional reflections that appear realistic and accurate in real time. It generates high-quality images with physically accurate reflections that respond dynamically to changes in an object's position and lighting conditions.
In the meantime, the developer has released a fixed-function product that is a bit of a dead-end due to its limitations. It is clear that this product was created before the developer was able to incorporate shaders into their work. Nevertheless, the developer admits that certain elements of this product will be used in their shader work – particularly when it comes to environment maps.
While tinkering with the product, I noticed that the code is uncommented – something I hope the developer will address in future releases. Despite this, the tech demo is impressive and allows for customization. It was particularly fun to try different reflectors and play around with the options. Overall, I think this is a worthwhile addition to the developer’s offerings and I look forward to seeing how they continue to incorporate new technology into their work.
