SnapMatcher offers a tool that detects similar or almost identical images in vast image collections.
One of the key features of this application is the ability to create multiple image databases for later queries. Additionally, the customizable matching threshold allows results to be generated anywhere from near-exact matches only to the identification of distinct images with very similar appearances. SnapMatcher supports most standard image formats, including JPEG, GIF, TIFF, PNG, and BMP by default, and other formats can be added using command line arguments.
Another great feature of SnapMatcher is the ability to specify image types by extension in the image database creation process. Match results can be output into a simple text file, which makes it easy to keep track of your images.
To install SnapMatcher, simply unzip the SnapMatcher-src-0.1.tar.gz file in an appropriate location. A directory called "snapmatcher" will be created, which contains the Python sources needed to run the application. To run the application, execute "# python SnapMatcher.py" inside the directory from your system's command line.
The latest release of SnapMatcher includes several new features and improvements, including the ability to quickly match a small set of images against any image database. It also fixes the bug that prevented the directory scan process in database creation from working on Windows, adds PCX, PPM, XPM, and XBM to the previous default image extensions, and improves database and match file updates. Overall, SnapMatcher is a great tool for anyone with extensive digital image collections who needs a better way to organize and identify duplicates or near-duplicates.
