Before using TamilKey, it's important to ensure that your computer has at least one Tamil unicode font installed. Once that's confirmed, simply follow these steps for quick and easy installation:
1. Install the TamilKey plugin and then restart your Firefox browser.
2. Keep your cursor in any text field within your browser and press F12 to use the Tamilnet99 style keyboard, or Ctrl and F12 for the Anjal style keyboard. Now you can start typing in the Tamil language!
If you need to switch back to typing in English, simply press F9.
In terms of requirements, TamilKey needs Thunderbird 1.5 - 1.5.0.* on your system to function properly.
In this latest release, you can expect some bug fixes and new features. The bugs that have been fixed include those related to TamilVisai not working in Chatzilla, new GMail compose window and Tamil 99 rules i.e 5,7,9,10,11 being absent from Tamil 99 special characters such as ௺ and ௹ not being present, and Ayudam 'ஃ' cannot be typed. In Anjal keyboard, typing 'qpyarqpaakS' does not convert to 'ஃபயர்ஃபாக்ஸ்' as it should. Additionally, bugs relating to Bamini/Old/New typewriters kombu, pulli-related bugs, canonical equivalence for Ogaram, Augaram-related issue, Bamini/New typewriters otru next to Augaram-related bug, and missing letters have been addressed.
Meanwhile, new features in this version include pre-selected website URLs, visual changes to selected textbox, Inscript, Avvai keyboards and context menu changes. All of these make TamilKey even more useful and user-friendly than before.
