ThinkPad Fan Control software allows users to monitor and adjust their ThinkPad's fan speed to optimize cooling and reduce noise levels. It is designed to work seamlessly with specific models of ThinkPad laptops, providing personalized control over the device's internal cooling system.
The tpfand daemon is the heart of this utility, responsible for controlling the system fan in software, making your laptop more noise-free. The only downside is that it may lead to higher system temperatures, ultimately impacting your laptop's life.
But with the newest version (0.90), you can configure fan trigger temperatures separately for each temperature sensor. One great advantage of this project is that it also provides a tpfan-admin Gtk+ frontend to keep you updated about system temperature and adjust fan trigger temperatures.
However, please note that the use of this program could lead to damage to your notebook. The author won't take responsibility for damages caused by it.
The installation process is straightforward. You can either download and install the source by hand or use the prebuilt packages. You'll also find a README file in the source distribution that clearly describes the manual installation steps.
So, if you want to configure tpfand, you can easily enter the System -> Administration -> Thinkpad Fan Control option from GNOME or type tpfan-admin at a shell. All in all, it's a great software for fan-speed adjustment and temperature monitoring.
