WhatPorts is an efficient and versatile port scanner that robustly scans for open socket connections which could signify a server of some sort running, whether it is authorized system services or unauthorized servers such as trojans. This software application strives to report the services that are running on the open ports by cycling through the ports on the entered host and returning any open ports while attempting to match the port with its registered port database. This association helps determine the service that is likely running on that port. If the service can be determined, the scanner provides you with the relevant information; otherwise, it informs you that it is unknown.

Our software application has undergone a number of tests, all of which have demonstrated that this scanner runs significantly faster than the scanner shipped with OS X. WhatPorts also provides a step further by informing you which service is most likely to be running on that port.

In our latest release, we have implemented various changes and upgrades to enhance user experience. This version introduces a descriptive progress indicator, a port lookup database, and a tighter scanning algorithm. Furthermore, WhatPorts now allows any host to be scanned, not just the local host.
