Screenlets is the name given to a collection of independently-developed widget applications and the engine that runs them. These widgets are primarily designed to run on X11-based compositing window managers and are best suited for Compiz architecture under Linux.
Before version 0.0.14, Screenlets were written mainly in Python and were drawn in SVG format. However, support for web widgets was added after this version, enabling the creation of widgets using HTML, JavaScript and CSS, similar to those found on Apple's Dashboard.
