The 3DM Import for Solid Edge is a helpful add-in that allows for the import of Rhinoceros (.3dm) files into Solid Edge. This feature enables Solid Edge to import 3D geometric data quickly and efficiently.

3DM Import for Solid Edge is specifically designed to read polygon mesh data stored in 3DM files and import it seamlessly into Solid Edge. Each 3DM file typically consists of a set of triangular and/or quad faces which are formed together to create a polygon mesh. This add-in creates trimmed planar surfaces for each triangle/quadrilateral and seamlessly knits them together to create an accurate and detailed body.
If the polygon mesh data is closed (does not contain boundary edges), 3DM Import for Solid Edge will automatically create a closed body feature. However, for open meshes, it will create an open surface.
This add-in is extremely user-friendly and easy to use. Once installed, it automatically loads itself into Solid Edge and adds a new submenu called "3DM Import for Solid Edge" to the Solid Edge Applications menu.
The '3DM Import for Solid Edge' menu consists of several convenient commands such as Import, Help, Register, and About, making it easy to access and use. Additionally, it comes with detailed documentation for each command and even a tutorial to get you started quickly.
It is important to note that the 3DM (3D Model) file format is the native file format of Rhinoceros. The OpenNURBS Initiative, founded by Robert McNeel & Associates in January 2000, aims to provide CAD, CAM, CAE, and computer graphics software users with reliable methods for transferring 3D geometry between different applications via the 3DM file format. Furthermore, TerrainCAD, a terrain generation, editing, and modeling software, also utilizes the 3DM file format as its native file format.
