AlarIT Net Serial Driver

This software is designed to solve the problem of starting up utility programs for facilities that are connected to a computer via serial port but require remote access. This is particularly useful for developers who need to debug on a remote machine or for multiple users maintaining the same facilities from different machines connected to one machine.

INSD allows for remote access to serial ports via TCP/IP and consists of three parts: a program emulator of serial ports (up to 255) for Windows 2000/XP (NVSD), a client service that facilitates communication between NVSD and TCP/IP (NNSD client), and a server service that facilitates communication between the real driver of the serial port and TCP/IP (NNSD server).

Both NNSD client and server handle two flows: outcoming and incoming. The client takes previously transferred bytes from all virtual ports and transfers them to the server on another computer, while also receiving flows from the server and transferring them to NVSD as if they were coming from the outside. The IP address of the receiving server, port number, and real serial port number on the receiver are specified on the client for each port.

The server receives information from clients and transfers it to specified ports, while also transferring flows from these ports to the client. TCP/IP transfers not only data flow, but also overhead information about the condition of different signals on serial port physical contacts. Overall, INSD efficiently addresses the need for remote access to serial ports in connected facilities.
