AleVT

AleVT is a teletext/videotext decoder and browser designed for the bttv driver and X11. The installation process is seamless and simple; a mere 'make' command is all that is required. For users who wish to skip png support, simply remove the WITH_PNG statement in the Makefile. Additionally, for those seeking a smaller font size, uncomment the "FONT=neep9" line to adjust accordingly.

The AleVT utility comes complete with three separate programs, namely 'alevt', 'alevt-date', and 'alevt-cap', each accompanied by their respective man pages 'alevt.1x', 'alevt-date.1', and 'alevt-cap.1'. Users have the freedom to install AleVT anywhere they see fit on their systems, such as '/usr/local/bin', as its programs are entirely self-contained and require no additional files.

However, users should be careful when using the 'make install' command, as it is specifically tailored for the developer's bespoke system. Moreover, the developer added a convenient tool allowing users to set the system's time based on the videotext's timestamp. Please note that the date is not interpreted and may not even be transmitted on some channels. Thus, the system only permits a time adjustment of +/-12 hours, with the default allowed adjustment set to +/-2 hours (use -delta to change).

Without the -set option, the tool merely displays the date in the format of the date command. Users can explore different possibilities and control sequences through the -format option by referencing strftime. Moreover, the latest version of AleVT has removed the bttv-warning from the help pages.
