APODIO is a live CD specializing in multimedia and music creation, based on Mandriva. It's designed to cater to the needs of musicians and multimedia enthusiasts.
The APODIO project is a specialist live CD based on Mandriva, designed for multimedia enthusiasts and musicians. The new release, version 4.2.2, is currently a test release, but includes a vast collection of software for audio, video, and graphics manipulation. While the default language of APODIO is French, it also supports English and several other languages. The CD boots with the light-weight PWM window manager as its default, with OroboROX available as an alternative.
APODIO started in 2003 by the APO33 association and has two main objectives: to create a complete audio station under GNU/Linux, which could either work straight away as a CD or be quickly installed on the hard disk, with practical and simple administration tools. The live CD version 3.0.9 immediately detects and adjusts itself to your sound and graphic display adapters, your equipment, and your hard disk partitions. It provides a range of interfaces, such as Gnome, Fluxbox, and Rox, with options to work on sound. APODIO is based on the GNU/Linux Mandrake 10.0 distribution and the mklicecd group scripts for creating the live CD or the hard disk.
The second objective of APODIO is to adhere to the principles of GNU/GPL and give permanence to part of their work. Unlike most other distributions that tend to drift too far away from the Linux Debian/RedHat/Mandrake communities, APODIO remains close to Mandriva. This allows users to reclaim the tools for themselves, making APODIO an affordable toolbox, more pragmatic than technical, and more suitable for common users than developers.
APODIO-4 is the complete remade version of July 2005, using less RAM than V3, and based on Mandriva 2006 (cooker) that can be synchronized. It includes new video processing software and a considerably increased PureData base. New projects are in progress, such as 'Poulpe' (Octopus), a live CD that can be the basis for a sound and plastic installation in many places linked by web-radio flows. The Ubik is a live CD for a 'standby' or a 'disabled' situation that becomes a sound and video sculpture, connected to any other Ubik. Each user can personalize their Ubik by modifying the CD base or the PureData patches found in a known directory in a disc, USB, FP, and so on.
