Artistic Style

Artistic Style is a versatile software project that serves as an efficient source code tool for indentation, formatting, and beautification of programming languages like C, C++, C#, and Java. As programmers, we have the common tendency to use tab characters and spaces to achieve the desired indentation while coding. However, different editors may insert spaces instead of tabs by default when the tab key is pressed. Some advanced editors like Emacs can also add additional whitespace to format lines to improve the code readability.

Nevertheless, the varying representation of space characters for tab characters can make the code look messy and difficult to read when switching between editors. Even when using only spaces or tabs, reviewing outsourced code can still pose a challenge. Artistic Style was created to address this challenge. The application is a filter written in C++ that can automatically re-indent and reformat source files of C / C++ / C# / Java programming languages.

Artistic Style can be executed from a command line or integrated as a class into a C++ program.
