"Break the Bricks" is a ball and board game, where the player's goal is to prevent the ball from falling out, using the board, while demolishing all the breakable game blocks. The 20-level game features obstacles that may require hitting some game blocks multiple times with the ball.
This game is all about keeping a ball in play until all of the breakable game blocks have been destroyed. You control your game board to help guide the ball and hit every block until they're all gone. Launch the ball with the space bar or control key, sending it northeast or northwest depending on your preference. Use the arrow keys to move the game board left and right as necessary. Some blocks require multiple hits with the ball before they break apart.
Once you destroy all of the blocks, you move on to the next level. If the ball gets stuck in an endless loop, hit the key X to fix the problem. Hidden inside certain game blocks are special objects that provide a variety of bonuses (such as slowing down the ball, or making your game board bigger). Keep in mind, however, that not every object is helpful! Each new object replaces the previous one.
At the start of the game, you have two spare lives. If you lose a ball, or start a new level, the game resets to its starting point (the ball, game board, and number of lives are restored to their original state). After completing the fourth, eighth, twelfth, and sixteenth levels, you receive a password which you can later use to start at a later level without having to replay the previous ones again.
The passwords are displayed in the blue menu bar at the top of the screen and can be entered in the "Game - Password" menu. Once you reach the twentieth level, the game is over. If you can complete all twenty levels, you earn a password to play any of the levels individually whenever you want.
