Cdred is a Linux driver with two programs that offer a unique solution to CD playback. It enables any CD player software, like xfreecd or gtcd, to use audio CD-ROMs inserted in another computer, allowing you to listen to an audio CD in a Linux box without it being physically inserted.
Cdred is compatible with all 2.2.x kernels, and support for 2.4 will be available soon. Written in C, Cdred follows a client-server model to implement most of the CD-ROM ioctls. Communication is via RPC, and the implementation is easy to understand, thanks to a helpful diagram.

It features a disc belonging to Meteosat, one of my favorite bands with my brother, Ignacio, as one of its members.
