Developed by Kiyoka Nishiyama
CMMI Project is a valuable software that simplifies the installation process from '.tar.gz' source archives. Even if you are not an expert of your OS, this program can help you manage your installation process efficiently as a package manager of your local site. CMMI can create Debian, RedHat, Slackware, and cygwin packages with ease, making it an excellent tool for individuals who want to streamline their development process.

The program offers numerous features that make it easy to manage your installation process efficiently. For instance, you can register a tarball (a tar.gz archive file) to the ‾/cmmi directory and manage it. Moreover, you can customize your particular installation instruction at the .cmmi file effortlessly.

CMMI is particularly useful if you want to manage the installation process on an OS that does not have a Package system such as cygwin, SunOS, etc. If you want to install the latest free software every day, this software is an excellent solution since many free software is released with .tar.gz archive only. Additionally, if you have forgotten your particular 'configure' options for installation, CMMI comes in handy.

The software is user-friendly and comes with an installation guide that is easy to follow. All you need to do is to perform 'make install,' and cmmi command will be installed in the /usr/local/bin directory. Once installed, create a '~/cmmi' directory by using the command '% mkdir ~/cmmi.' When you run the cmmi command, you will see a message that guides you on how to use the program.

CMMI is perfect for individuals who can read and write Perl script and sh script. If you encounter any issues while using CMMI, the developers encourage users to send patches.

The latest version of CMMI comes with several features that enhance its functionality. For instance, the default value of $PACKAGE_PREFIX included an illegal keyword '_' for Debian packages, and that has since been fixed. The release also supports the '.depends' feature for Debian packages, and it checks whether the ./configure script exists or doesn't exist. CMMI supports .bz2 archives, making it more versatile. Overall, CMMI is a valuable program that developers and individuals who manage their installation process should consider using.
