Compiz-Check is a versatile tool that helps users identify if their system/setup can support Compiz. If not, the tool will provide information on why the system is not supporting it. This software review will delve into the features of Compiz-Check and how it can be beneficial to users.

Users can utilize the output of the script to seek support in the official Compiz Fusion forums or their preferred distribution's mailing list/forum. This makes finding solutions much more comfortable and faster. Compiz-Check is compatible with a range of desktop environments such as GNOME, KDE, and Xfce. It is not limited to a specific Linux distribution as the script lists that information for users.

The test consists of three parts: listing relevant system information, running several Compiz related checks, and checking for problematic hardware and problems with the setup in use. The testing output will provide specific information such as the user's distribution, desktop environment, graphics chip, driver in use, and rendering method.

If everything is okay, the system is most likely compatible with Compiz. However, if anything fails, Compiz-Check will provide users with a reason for the failure and suggestions for resolving the issue. It does not run Compiz for users nor make changes to their system unless specified.

Using Compiz-Check is simple, with the following steps: download the tool via the command 'wget -O compiz-check,' make it executable using 'chmod +x compiz-check,' and run the script using './compiz-check'.

The new release of Compiz-Check comes with general clean-up, extended $PATH for lspci on SUSE, fixed and enhanced distro detect, proper XDG usage, and a hopefully fail-proof deactivation of Metacity's compositing manager. It also now aborts when one tries to run the script as root.

Overall, Compiz-Check is a useful tool for Linux users looking to determine the compatibility of their setup with Compiz. With its simplicity and reliability, users can identify the cause of any issues with ease and seek solutions via official forums or distribution mailing lists.
