Cosmic Assault is a classic-style space shooter game with a retro feel.
If you're a fan of arcade-style, retro space shooter games, then Cosmic Assault is one you shouldn't miss. As a software developer, I created Cosmic Assault as an homage to the games of my youth in the early 1980s. Originally intended as a tutorial for programmers learning pygame, it soon turned into a fully-fledged shoot-em-up game.
The development process was organic and driven by experimentation. I constantly asked myself, "What if?" and "How can I do this?" As a result, the game does not conform to modern software engineering practices, with numerous OO misfeatures that are sure to confound enterprise Java developers.
But despite its rough edges, or perhaps because of them, Cosmic Assault is a highly engaging and enjoyable game. Players must fly their spacecraft into the unknown and defeat hordes of ruthless enemies. There is no grand narrative to follow, just mindless fun.
