cPige

cPige is a software designed for webradios that need to backup their streams on a daily basis. The software is capable of listening to an icecast/shoutcast webradio and writing the stream using two different methods. The first method is the Artist-Title.mp3 mode, while the second is the Pige mode, where cPige writes files like 0.mp3, 1.mp3, etc., corresponding to the current hour. Each mp3 file is 60 minutes long, and existing files are overwritten to allow 24/7 streaming.

To use cPige, the user needs to provide some parameters after running the app from the command line. These parameters include the host to connect to, the directory to save the stream, the mode to be used (Pige or Artist-Title), the option to use pige metadata (useful for pige mode only), and more. There is also a possibility to run cPige in the background as a daemon or to set the interval for cutting the file in Pige mode.

A practical example of how to use the software is provided in the review. The new release of cPige features some improvements and bug fixes. The most notable new feature is the addition of the Gtk2 GUI, which makes the software more user-friendly. The software also now handles metaint changes during reconnections correctly, while non-printable characters are no longer used in filenames created in non-pige mode. A bug fix also ensures that the software directly starts recording without waiting for a new interval, and there is a fix for a memory leak. Furthermore, the software is better optimized for the Win32 platform. Finally, the ability to stop cPige after a certain amount of time has been added, and NULL strings are not printed.
