Thief-ware is a serious threat to computer users as it can steal valuable information such as credit card details and ID information. Thief-ware is a malicious program that monitors internet usage and records sensitive information such as credit card numbers, ID names, and passwords. It also creates false pop-up windows that prompt users to provide confidential details such as ATM card codes, credit card numbers, and more.

Experts in the industry estimate that up to 90% of computers connected to the internet may have thief-ware installed, which is often bundled alongside freeware or shareware, sent by email, or as installed by someone who has access to a user's computer. Traditional corporate security measures like firewalls, anti-virus, and anti-spyware software are often insufficient to combat this threat, as thief-ware programs don't fit the definition of a virus or spyware, and hence go undetected.
