Cruiser is an excellent utility that features an innovative recursive menu system for quick and easy access to your file system. This software tool also comes with the advantage that it is designed to extend the role of D-Bus-based plugins, making it useful for many different purposes.
The plugins enable you to have access to essential feeds such as RSS, bookmarks, email, stock quotes, weather reports, and more. For Qt 4.3 and above, the Cruiser plugin completely supports cutting-edge features.
To use Cruiser, you must meet these two requirements: Qt 4.3 or above and D-Bus 1.1.1 or higher. If you meet them, follow the instructions on building and installing Cruiser. Firstly, run Qt 4 qmake to begin. After that, run make, and Cruiser should launch automatically.
If you want to install Cruiser, type "$ make install" in the build directory, or if you want to uninstall Cruiser, go to the build directory and type "$ make uninstall." You can also uninstall the ${PREFIX}/share/cruiser directory manually.
After installation, Cruiser should be running smoothly, and the demo plugin FSCruiser, a basic file system browser, should launch automatically. If it doesn't launch automatically, you can launch it manually by executing it (${PREFIX}/share/cruiser/plugins/fscruiser.py).
You can play around with Cruiser on your desktop's system tray's per-user basis through the ${HOME}/.cruiser/cruiserconf.xml file, or change the default by editing the ${PREFIX}/etc/cruiser/cruiserconf.xml file. Suppose the ${HOME}/.cruiser/cruiserconf.xml file is not present. In that case, Cruiser will only load the ${PREFIX}/etc/cruiser/cruiserconf.xml file.
If more plugins become available, they will be installed for all users in ${PREFIX}/share/cruiser/plugins or for individual users in ${HOME}/.cruiser/plugins. Cruiser automatically executes all executable files in both directories upon startup (non-recursive).
