DXF Export for SolidWorks

If you're a SolidWorks user and need to export 3D solid and surface data from your part and assembly documents into AutoCAD, then the DXF Export for SolidWorks add-in may be just what you need. This easy-to-use add-in tessellates the solid bodies in your documents into individual triangular meshes, which are then exported to an ASCII DXF file as 3D Polyface mesh objects.

The level of tessellation can be adjusted by using the resolution slider in the DXF Export for SolidWorks options dialog box. Lower resolutions will give you coarser meshes (with fewer faces), while higher resolutions will result in finer meshes (with more faces). The add-in also comes with a tutorial to get you started in the shortest possible time.

Once installed, the DXF Export for SolidWorks add-in automatically loads itself into SolidWorks and adds a new submenu called "DXFExport" to the SolidWorks menu. This submenu consists of four commands: Export (to export meshes to a DXF file), Help (to display the DXF Export for SolidWorks help file), Register (to register your copy of DXF Export for SolidWorks), and About (to display the DXF Export for SolidWorks About box).

Finally, it's worth noting that the AutoCAD DXF file format is a CAD data file format developed by Autodesk as their solution for enabling data interoperability between AutoCAD and other programs. DXF was originally introduced in December 1982 as part of AutoCAD 1.0 and was designed to be an exact representation of the data in the AutoCAD native file format, DWG, for which Autodesk didn't (and doesn't) publish specifications.
