Emacs.app is a powerful port of the latest GNU Emacs source available on the market. The port was developed using the OpenStep (or NeXTstep) APIs, and Cocoa on OS X as well as the GNUstep open source project. It functions exceptionally well on OS X 10.3 ("Panther") and 10.4 ("Tiger"), and on GNUstep on Linux.
This port is extremely versatile and may also work on other GNUstep platforms, including NetBSD and FreeBSD. However, it may require more effort to run successfully on Windows and Solaris.
It is essential to note that on OS X, 10.1 and 10.2 are not supported because certain APIs that support explicit character layout in text rendering are absent.
