Colonization began on Earth and spread outward until dissent and discord against a corrupt government caused a collapse. This rebellion led to the destruction of critical parts of the Hypergate system, causing entire systems to be isolated and left to fend for themselves.
Without a central government, civilization slid into a dark age of isolation. The few pockets of humanity that survived had to adapt to their new surroundings and cling on to life with everything they had.
