Evad is a powerful text-based client for MPD music server, written in Python and curses. As an ncmpc client user, I found that ncmpc was no longer updated and lacked certain features I wanted. Thus, I began developing Evad, which incorporates many of the design ideas of ncmpc, but with added features that make managing music easier.
To install, simply use the "python setup.py install" command as root. After installation, the program can be launched by entering "evad" in the command line or program starter. No automatic menu entries are created.
In use, note that keybindings may change throughout development. Upon start-up, Evad displays the playlist. To add tracks, switch to browse mode by pressing TAB or arrow-right. Navigate to the item you wish to add, and press CTRL-space. Use TAB to return to the playlist and find the newly added tracks. Use left and right arrow keys to move up and down directories.
Other keybindings including playing tracks, moving up and down, and searching, are explained in detail in the program. The most recent version boasts a complete internal rewrite, a better synchronous repaint system, and improved performance.
