Fire Gnome, also known as gfirewall, is a firewall configuration tool with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) based on GTK technology.
Fire Gnome (aka gfirewall) is a GTK-based GUI for configuring a firewall. This software is primarily written in C but relies on 'string' and 'map' from the 'stl' C++ libraries, making libstdc++ a requirement for compilation.
Recently, the developer has been exposed to glib BSTs and is considering converting the code to use GTree instead. The goal of this software is to provide a tool for altering ipchains-save files, which the developer sees as a useful way of storing ipchains configurations.
The next version, v0.1.0, will include features such as adding and removing rules in a chain, implementing statistics functions with automated updates, and creating hardcoded 'stock rules.'
In addition, the developer plans to allow for macros in 'stock rules,' such as MYIP or MYGATEWAY, as well as allowing for user additions to stock rules. The project will also tie in with the Database of Masq Apps and Games List, thanks to a suggestion from Shane Butler.
Fire Gnome's display will also be improved, with ideas from Wallace Owen on displaying a color-coded tree based on chains and jumps, rather than the main chain they belong to.
The latest release does not include any new features, as the developer has been too busy with life stuff to put more effort into the project. However, the project will be revamped to work with iptables for Linux 2.4.x by mid-summer. Thank you for your interest and support in Fire Gnome.
